Moreno Valley man dead, three others injured in early morning Riverside crash
RIVERSIDE >> A 72-year-old Moreno Valley resident died after the van he was driving and a car crashed early Saturday morning, Oct. 26, in the 2000 block of East Alessandro Boulevard, Riverside police said.
The man’s name was not released pending notification of his family.
The crash was reported about 4:20 a.m.
A black 2009 Kia Sorento was traveling east on Alessandro and crossed over the center median before hitting the van, Riverside police Lt. Mark Rossi said.
When Riverside Fire Department personnel arrived, they found the driver of the full-size 2012 Nissan van was dead and a 66-year-old passenger, also a resident of Moreno Valley, was critically injured, authorities said.
The 26-year-old driver of the Kia, a Perris resident, and a 22-year-old Moreno Valley resident, who was a passenger, suffered moderate injuries, authorities said.
Firefighters had to cut open the van to remove the driver, according to a news release from the Riverside Fire Department.
All the injured were taken to area hospitals for treatment, and all are expected to recover, Rossi said.
Police are investigating if drugs may have played a role in the incident, authorities said.
