Menifee’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is set for Saturday, Dec. 9.

The free event will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the Menifee Town Center at the corner of Town Center and Newport Road. City officials say this year’s ceremony will continue traditions of preceding years, while adding new ones.

Those include: a “Kids Snow Zone,” with 40 tons of snow and jumpers; an “Elves Craft Workshop;” a “Letters to Santa Booth,” sponsored by the Menifee Valley Lions Club; visits and photos with Santa; free cookies provided by BJ’s Restaurant; and food and craft vendors.

And there will be holiday-themed performances by community groups.

The first 500 people who come will receive a commemorative City of Menifee ornament and a cup of hot cocoa, a news release states. Early birds also will get to see Santa and Mrs. Claus enter on a fire engine.
