Man walking on 215 Freeway near March Air Reserve Base struck, killed
A man walking along the northbound lanes of the 215 Freeway near Cactus Avenue near March Air Force Reserve Base was struck and killed just before midnight Tuesday, according to California Highway Patrol reports.
Riverside County Coroner’s authorities identified the man as 48-year-old Carl Dickerson of Moreno Valley.
The crash was first reported at 11:59 p.m. to CHP emergency dispatchers, according to authorities. It was first reported as a person struck by a tractor trailer, officials said. They noted the driver of the tractor trailer pulled over.
After officers arrived at the scene, it was determined that a second pick-up truck may have also struck Dickerson, according to the CHP incident log. Dickerson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities shut down all but one lane of the freeway so officers could conduct an investigation, CHP officials said. A SigAlert was issued for the area.
Why Dickerson was on the freeway was not clear.
