Riverside police are searching for the shooter who wounded a man in the parking lot of a closed bowling alley early Monday morning, officials said.

The shooting took place around 12:45 a.m., nearly two hours after the AMF Riverside Lanes, 10781 Indiana Ave., had closed, according to Lt. Brian Crawford with the Riverside Police Department.

The man was in or near his car when a fight broke out between him and at least one other person leading to the shooting, he said. The unidentified man was shot two to three times.

Initial reports which said the wounded man may been a Lyft driver possibly shot by a passenger were incorrect, Crawford said.

“I don’t know if he had a Lyft sticker on his car but if he is a driver for Lyft, he wasn’t on duty when the shooting took place,” he said.

The wounded man then drove about a mile to a 7-Eleven on La Sierra and Magnolia avenues where he called for help, Crawford said. Paramedics took the man to the hospital with non-life threatening wounds.

A description of the shooter was not immediately available and it also wasn’t clear if the shooter ran off or got away in a vehicle.
