HEMET — Responding to a domestic dispute call, Hemet Police Department officers shot a man several times at about 7 p.m. Saturday, police officials said.

The injured man, whose name has not been made public, was taken to an area hospital.

“I have not heard a report about his condition,” Hemet Police Lt. Glen Brock said.

The shooting occurred in front of a large shopping area in the 3500 block of West Florida Avenue, he said.

Officers made contact with the man who was believed to be involved in the dispute, he said, and a short time later, two officers fired their handguns.

It was not immediately known if bullets from both officers’ weapons hit the man.

After the shooting, officers immediately began to administer first aid as they waited for medical assistance to arrive, Brock said.

Police didn’t immediately say if the man officers encountered was armed.

The investigation will continue well into the night, Brock said.

Information about what led to the shooting will be released later, after many more interviews are completed, Brock said.
