Riverside County Coroner’s officials identified the man killed in a Winchester crash Sunday as Jacob Prichard, 35, of Temecula.

Prichard was riding a motorcycle when California Highway Patrol investigators say he ran a red light at Winchester and Scott roads around 5:45 p.m. Sunday evening. Winchester Road also is known as Highway 79.

Prichard was traveling north on Winchester Road at about 55 to 60 mph when he ran the signal at Scott Road, the CHP report shows.

At the same time, a van was heading west on Scott Road and struck Prichard, officials said.

Prichard was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in a dirt lot, officials said. The van also ended up near the dirt lot and struck a barb wire fence.

Several people tried to help Prichard, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said. The driver of the van was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The crash is under investigation.
