Man in wheelchair struck by hit-and-run driver in Yucca Valley
San Bernardino County sheriff’s investigators are searching for the female driver that drove off after she allegedly struck a man in a wheelchair trying to cross a Yucca Valley street Wednesday night, officials said.
Around 8:15 p.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin sheriff’s station were called to Grand Avenue and Antelope Trail after a man in a wheelchair was hit by an SUV, according to a news release. Paramedics took the man to Desert Regional Medical Center. His condition was not known Thursday.
Witnesses told deputies a woman driving a silver SUV hit the 49-year-old Yucca Valley man and kept on driving, officials said. There were no street lights in the area making it hard to see, authorities said, however, they didn’t say if the man was crossing in the middle of the block or at a marked crosswalk.
Authorities say the SUV will have front end damage.
