Man denies attempted murder charges following Saturday shooting in Highland
A 26-year-old man was charged with attempted murder Wednesday, Feb. 14, in the Saturday shooting that left a woman in Highland with gunshot wounds to her hands and face, according to sheriff’s officials and court records.
Lawrence Ray Bender, who was arrested Monday, pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, discharging of a firearm to cause great bodily injury, discharging of a firearm, using a firearm and special allegations of a prior felony.
Bender has previously felony convictions for assault, battery and domestic violence, court records show.
He is being housed at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, according to jail records. Bail is set at $1 million.
Bender, of Highland, was identified as the suspect in the in the 7400 block of Elm Street just before 4 a.m. Saturday, a San Bernardino County sheriff’s news release said. The deputies found a woman lying on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds to her hand and face.
No motive for the shooting was released.
