Man critically injured in Riverside fire is expected to recover

A man who was listed in critical condition after being pulled unconscious from his smoke-filled home on Christmas Day is expected to make a full recovery, Riverside city fire Battalion Chief Tony Perna said Wednesday.
When firefighters entered the house in the 9000 block of Duncan Avenue about 11 a.m., the flames were burning in a room adjacent to and moving toward where the man was found sitting up in a chair, Perna said.
The floor-to-ceiling smoke covered the man, who was unconscious and not breathing, Perna said. He was suffering from smoke inhalation, but firefighters revived him. He was still hospitalized Wednesday.
The fire started where a lamp was touching drapes, Perna said.
The victim had smoke detectors in the house — but they were still in their boxes, Perna said.
