Man beaten with metal pole in Needles assault
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 40-year-old Needles man Thursday, June 15, in connection with an assault two days earlier, according to a sheriff’s news release.
On Tuesday at 6:14 a.m., deputies responded to the 1900 block of DeSoto Street in Needles where they found a man with a broken leg who had been beaten with a metal pole.
The assailant reportedly fled the scene on foot, but he was identified as Francisco Garcia of Needles, the release said. Deputies found him Thursday in an abandoned house in the 200 block of Bazabooth Street and arrested him on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Garcia was booked into the Needles jail with bail set at $50,000. He is on probation for felony false imprisonment.
Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call Deputy Whitcomb at 760-326-9200 or the anonymous tip line at 888-792-7463.
