Man arrested, suspected of attempting to run down and kill a San Bernardino County deputy
YUCCA VALLEY — San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man on Thursday on suspicion of attempted murder after, investigators say, he tried to run down a deputy during an Oct. 18 incident.
Jeremy Sazanowicz, 41, was arrested in the 7600 block of Cibola Trail. Listed as a Yucca Valley transient, he is being held in Morongo Basin jail on $1 million bond. Arraignment is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 30, in Morongo Basin Superior Court.
On Oct. 18, deputies chased a Ford truck in the area of Highway 62 and Highway 247 in Yucca Valley in an incident that stemmed from an alleged vehicle code violation, according to a sheriff’s statement.
The pursuit continued west on Skyline Ranch Road and, according to sheriff’s officials, the driver, now identified as Sazanowicz, attempted to run over a deputy and a deputy-involved shooting occurred in which no one was hit.
The suspect continued approximately 100 yards where the road became impassable, exited his vehicle and fled on foot into the desert, the report said.
An extensive search was conducted of the surrounding area using deputies, a Sheriff’s helicopter, and a K-9 unit. The search ended without the suspect being located at that time.
