Man accused of shooting in the air while riding a bicycle on the 210 Freeway in San Bernardino is arrested
A San Bernardino man who police say was high on drugs was arrested on accusations that he fired several rounds into the air while he was on the 210 Freeway at Waterman Avenue, authorities said Tuesday.
Shannon Deray Donaldson, 35, was arrested Oct. 26 on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and negligent discharge of a firearm. He’s since been charged and pleaded not guilty to all charges Monday in San Bernardino County Superior Court, records indicate.
During rush hour traffic on Oct. 26, police received several 911 calls of a man on a bicycle shooting into the air on the 210 Freeway near Waterman Avenue in San Bernardino, according to San Bernardino police.
San Bernardino police and California Highway Patrol officers searched for the shooter, but after 20 minutes were unable to find the gunman, a news release said.
During the search, a police officer received a tip from a resident, which led to the officer to Donaldson hiding in heavy brush near 29th and D streets, officials said.
“The suspect was acting erratically while trying to conceal himself in the brush and multiple officers converged on the scene,” the police statement said.
Officers found Donaldson — a gang member — with a loaded handgun, police said. He was also under the influence of narcotics and he had PCP in his possession, according to police.
“The freeway was densely populated during the time of the shooting, and one of the 911 callers
was actually able to provide a relatively accurate description of the suspect, which ultimately
helped in locating the suspect,” the police statement said. “The San Bernardino Police Department would like to commend the community members who took it upon themselves to call and report this incident and provide such essential details for the active investigation.”
Donaldson is expected to be back in court […]
