K-9 helps catch paroled sex offender who police say cut off GPS unit
A convicted sex offender out on parole was apprehended with the help of a four-footed officer after the sex offender cut off his GPS ankle monitor, authorities said.
According to the Riverside Police Department, Anaheim resident Gabriel Vasquez, 43, had a warrant out for his arrest for parole violation.
Riverside police officers went to where his GPS monitor was located. There, at the 1700 block of Main Street, they observed Vasquez in the driveway of a residence.
He apparently observed the officers as well, and Vasquez reportedly fled out of the back of the property, onto the grounds of nearby Fremont Elementary School. Riverside Police Department officers encircled the school and brought in air support and a K-9 unit.
Vasquez was found hiding in thick brush by Rocco, the K-9 unit, and taken into custody.
He was arrested for parole violation warrant and resisting arrest. According to the police, he was taken to a local hospital and later booked into jail.
