Jurupa Valley mulch pile fire spreads into Santa Ana River bottom
By Gail Wesson
Thirty- to 40-mile-an-hour winds fueled a wildfire Wednesday evening in the Santa Ana River bottom that started in a mulch pile near Limonite Avenue and Beach Street in Jurupa Valley, according to a Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department news release.
The fire was reported at 8:01 p.m. and attracted firefighters from the county and the city of Riverside as they tried to determine exactly where the fire was burning and how to access it.
The first arriving engine company described a large mulch pile well involved in fire that extended into the river bottom. At 9:17 p.m., the fire agency said the fire had grown to 1.5 acres and was spreading at a moderate rate with embers causing spot fires.
No evacuations were ordered.
