The final, official, results of June 6 City Council elections in Riverside and Moreno Valley did not change the outcome of early returns, but voter turnout in both cities was poor.

The Riverside County Registrar of Voters certified the vote totals Thursday, June 15.

In Riverside, Ward 2 Councilman Andy Melendrez won re-election with 57.09 percent of the 4,311 ballots cast. In Ward 4, challenger Chuck Conder received 54.15 percent of the 5,633 votes cast, ousting Councilman Paul Davis. Ward 6 Councilman Jim Perry beat challenger Rafael Elizalde with 66.07 percent of the 3,884 ballots.

In Moreno Valley, college student Ulises Cabrera beat three opponents to win an open council seat with 36.98 percent of the 1,928 votes cast.

Less than 1 percent of Moreno Valley voters visited polling places on election day. The number of mailed ballots returned in both cities barely topped 20 percent.
