Inmate dies at Indio hospital where he was taken for a medical evaluation

A Riverside County Jail inmate died Wednesday afternoon at an Indio hospital after he was taken there for medical evaluation from the county jail in Indio earlier in the day, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s news release.
The incident was reported at 8:13 a.m. and the inmate was taken to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital for evaluation, but his condition declined. He was pronounced dead at 4:08 p.m. Wednesday.
There was no indication of foul play in the incident, according to the news release. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The sheriff’s Thermal Station and coroner’s bureau will assist in the investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact 760-863-8990.
