Highlanders visit regionals:
The UC Riverside cross country teams competed in the 2017 NCAA West Regionals hosted by the University of Washington. The women placed 17th overall while the men’s team placed 25th overall.
CBU 83, CSUDH 78:
The Lancers start the year off with a 1-0 mark, while the Toros sit 0-1 after the first day of the Lancers Tip-Off Challenge.
Kalidou Diouf led four Lancers in double figures with 24 points (10-for-17), while also being selfless with four assists on the night. De’jon Davis also had a successful night in the post, scoring a career-high 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Jason Todd finished with 12 points, while Jordan Heading knocked down 11 points (5-for-12).
CSUSB 81, Central Washington 62:
CSUSB’s 81-62 victory is the program’s largest point differential since defeating San Francisco State 77-58 on Jan. 29, 2015.
Balanced scoring told the tale for coach Jeff Oliver’s team. Elijah Brown led with 15 followed by Ajon Efferson (14), Jacardo Hawkins (12), Dorian Butler (10), and T.A. Dixon (10). Blake McBride had eight and Justin Frazier seven.
CSUSB shot 46.2 percent from the floor on 30 of 65 shooting. It hit 8 of 19 3s (42.1 percent) and hit 13 of 15 free throws. The Coyotes never trailed in the contest, and held CWU to just nine FGs in the second half.
Loyola 67, UCR 59:
UC Riverside was held scoreless for the first 4:40 of the game, as the Lions took a 13-0 advantage right out of the gates. Playing catch-up the rest of the way, the Highlanders eventually cut the deficit to as little as five, 49-44, on a jumper by freshman guard Tianna Eaton with 18 seconds left in the third quarter.
