Idyllwild, Aguanga or Mountain Center: Where are home prices up 61%?

How do the housing markets of Idyllwild, Aguanga and Mountain Center compare on a national scale through the eyes of Zillow?

The online housing tracker’s national databases can help add some perspective to the high price of local living.

As of November, for example, Riverside County is the No. 10 market in size out of 1,700 major counties tracked nationally by Zillow. The county’s $354,600 median home value was the 85th highest in the nation. The countywide five-year gain of 64.2 percent was 67th best nationally, but the 10-year performance, a 4.5 percent decline, ranks No. 1,058 among major counties.

Other Southern California countywide median values and their U.S. rank: Orange County at $696,200 (No. 13 among 1,700 counties); Los Angeles County at $588,000 (No. 22); San Diego County at $560,800 (No. 27); and San Bernardino County at $318,200 (No. 123).

Here’s how Zillow sees home values in these communities as of November …

IDYLLWILD

1. Market size: No. 12,463 nationally, or in the bottom 4 percent.

2. Market value: $271,700 — that’s No. 3,173 nationally or in the top 25 percent of all cities.

3. 5-year change: Up 53.2 percent — that’s No. 1,452 or in the top 12 percent.

AGUANGA

1. Market size: No. 11,999 nationally, or in the bottom 8 percent.

2. Market value: $370,800 — that’s No. 1,716 nationally or in the top 14 percent of all cities.

3. 5-year change: Up 61 percent — that’s No. 994 or in the top 9 percent.

4. 10-year change: Off 20.9 percent — that’s No. 11,104 or in the bottom 4 percent.

5. All-time high value? $534,100 in December 2005 or 44.0 percent above the current level.

MOUNTAIN CENTER

1. Market size: No. 10,201 nationally, or in the bottom 22 percent.
