High fire near Lucerne Valley holds at 170 acres, inches toward containment

The High fire burning near Lucerne Valley was almost fully contained Wednesday, July 26, fire officials said.
The fire was at 97 percent containment and holding at 170 acres, said Cal Fire spokeswoman Debbie Chapman. She said the threat to nearby structures has been mitigated.

The fire began about 4 p.m. Sunday. It prompted evacuations of homes east of High Road and south of Highway 18 and the closure of some roads. A portion of Highway 18 was closed for about three hours then reopened.
By Monday, evacuations had been canceled and most roads had been reopened.
