A Hesperia woman is in jail after doctors discovered her 2-year daughter was emaciated and severely malnourished following a medical exam, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.

Chelsea Marie Price, 25, was arrested Thursday, Feb. 8, on suspicion of child cruelty resulting in possible injury or death. She was booked at the Adelanto Detention Center, according to jail records. Bail is set at $100,000.

Doctors had examined the girl after Price brought her in for a medical appointment on Halloween, a sheriff’s news release said. The toddler was taken to a hospital for extensive treatment.

Price was taken into custody after an extensive investigation. Sheriff officials worked with forensic pediatricians from Loma Linda University Medical Center.
