Lake Elsinore’s slogan is “Dream Extreme.”

The city’s high temperature of 89 degrees Thursday, Dec. 28, was no dream, but it was extreme.

That temperature was the highest in the United States, a whopping 128 degrees higher than the nation’s low, minus-39 degrees two miles north of Philadelphia, N.Y., the National Weather Service said.

The Lake Elsinore temperature reached 89 at 2:49 p.m., the Weather Service said. That temperature broke Lake Elsinore’s recorded high for Dec. 28s of 83 degrees, set in 1899.
