Here’s five great things about Perris

The city of Perris was profoundly saddened by reports of years of abuse and neglect of 13 siblings who lived with their parents in the community. We know that the media has a job to do in reporting such tragedies that touch people the world over.
We respect that job.
But we believe the Jan. 17 article entitled “Where is Perris? And 5 other things to know about the city made newly infamous by a child-torture case” reinforced negative stereotypes that Perris is an impoverished community with uncertain prospect for the future.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Here are five other things we feel you should know about Perris
• Perris is the 7th fastest growing city in Riverside County with innovative leaders that are home grown and paving the path for a progressive city. City Council members Malcolm Corona and David Starr Rabb are prime examples of Perris residents who grew up in this community, graduated from Perris High School, earned college degrees and now enjoy successful careers in education and law. With their energy and passion for Perris, both Corona and Rabb alongside Councilmembers Tonya Burke, Rita Rogers and Mayor Michael Vargas are aggressively pursuing new partnerships that will expand the capabilities of the City for future generations.
• Perris is home to growing businesses and employers that are proud to call Perris home. Stretch Forming Corporation, a local supplier to major aerospace and defense companies like Boeing and SpaceX, moved its operations to Perris during the economic downturn. Nearly half of their employees reside in Perris while the remaining workforce live within five miles of the city.
