Hemet police arrest attempted murder suspect

Authorities arrested a Hemet man on suspicion of attempted murder in the early morning hours of Monday, Jan. 1.

Kevin Carter, 39, was arrested after police responded to a call about shots being fired in the 600 block of West Florida Avenue.

Once on scene, authorities found a female victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Carter was last seen walking from the area and was later located by another officer responding to the call. In a news release, police said Carter resisted the officer, pulled a firearm and fired the weapon at the officer. Carter ran away and was located during a neighborhood search, the release said.

The female victim was transported to a nearby hospital and was in stable condition. The responding officer suffered minor injuries.

Authorities booked Carter on three counts of attempted murder. He is awating transport to Riverside County Jail, the release said.
