Freight train derails in Vernon, slowing Metrolink traffic

A freight train derailed in Vernon on Sunday afternoon, resulting in no initial reports of injuries, but slowing commuter train traffic through the area, authorities said.
The mishap took place shortly after 1 p.m. on a set of tracks along 26th Street, between Sierra Pine Avenue and Indiana Street, according to Vernon police and fire officials.

There were no initial reports of injuries. No further details were immediately available.
The involved train was operated by BNSF, Metrolink officials said via Twitter.
Metrolink traffic through the area was stopped or delayed on some lines as a result.
OC Line 663 to Los Angeles, SB Line 364 to San Bernardino and OC Line 664 to Oceanside were operating with delays between 10 and 20 minutes about an hour after the incident, according to alerts issues by Metrolink.
