First baby of the new year celebrated at Hemet Valley Medical Center

Born at 2:02 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, little Karen Alexandra Morales became the first baby of 2018 at Hemet Valley Medical Center, beating out baby number two by more than 24 hours.
At 7 pounds, 12 ounces and 19 inches long, she and her mom, also Karen Morales, were presented a “cake” made from diapers and decorated with baby items by hospital staff.
The pair also received a gift basket that included a car seat, a baby bath unit with bath supplies, baby wipes, toys, gift cards, and baby hats and blankets handmade by volunteers.
A day later, the second baby of 2018 was also given a car seat and gift cards. Daniela Serna’s baby boy Aaron was born on at 10:03 p.m. Jan. 2 and weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce, and was also 19 inches long.
