Riverside Police evacuated several homes in the 5700 block of Perthshire Place as the fire came dangerously close to the structures, according to a fire news release. People were allowed to return to their homes a short time later.

The fire was first reported just after 10 p.m., according to authorities, and was burning in an area with difficult access.

Although the blaze was fueled by light and flashy brush, firefighters were able to gain the upperhand in about an hour.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
