The Maloney fire northwest of Lake Arrowhead is 95 percent contained as of Tuesday, July 11, and the U.S. Forest Service firefighter who was hoisted off the fire lines by helicopter for treatment of a heat-related illness has returned to duty, a forest spokeswoman said in a written statement.

The lightning-caused fire started Sunday, July 9, off Highway 173 near the Pinnacles and is just over six acres in size, DeLyn Sieliet, San Bernardino National Forest visitor information assistant/public affairs, wrote in an email.

The 34-year-old firefighter was treated at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton and released.

The burn area is characterized by chaparral-covered steep terrain with no homes nearby. The fire was reported just before 3:30 p.m.
