Fire causes $500,000 in damage to Banning motels

The freeway shoulder brush fire that spread to two Banning motels Sunday, July 16, caused $500,000 in damage to the businesses, according to a Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department news update on the incident.
The fire was reported at 3:06 p.m. along the westbound edge of the I-10 and spread to the Quality Inn and Travelodge to the north on East Ramsey Street.
Guest rooms at the Quality Inn were damaged was was a storage container at the other motel. The fire displaced three adults and a child who were living at one of the motels and the American Red Cross was contacted to assist them, according to the news release.
Winds at the time of the fire were about 7 to 16 mph, with gusts to 22 to 26 mph, according to National Weather Service records.
