Not only has Rickard Rakell has emerged as the Ducks’ most reliable goal scorer but the versatile forward can add something else to his resume. Call him an All-Star.

Rakell was selected to represent the Pacific Division for the NHL’s midseason showcase weekend, which will be Jan. 27-28 in Tampa, Fla.

After breaking out with a career-high 33 goals to lead the Ducks last season, the fifth-year player has followed up with another strong campaign. Rakell, 24, has 15 goals and 16 assists in 38 games. His goals top the team, as does his 31 points. Most of his offensive production has come from a successful move to left wing on the top line, where he plays often with center Ryan Getzlaf.

The Ducks have Rakell as their only All-Star choice this year after having Ryan Kesler and Cam Fowler represent them in last year’s game at Staples Center. There was some thought that goalie John Gibson might get his second nod, but Vegas netminder Marc-Andre Fleury, who has been limited to just 12 games because of a concussion, was selected.
