Next up for the Clippers in the wildest week of the Doc Rivers era? How about adding a former Most Valuable Player?

The Clippers are scheduled to meet with Derrick Rose on Wednesday as they continue their efforts salvage a summer that will long be defined more by who left, Chris Paul, than who came to replace him.

Rose, 28, averaged 18 points in 64 games last season in his first year with New York. Six years removed from his MVP campaign with his hometown Chicago Bulls and the victim of serious injuries to both knees, Rose represents a bit of a low-risk, high-reward target for the Clippers.

His fit on the roster is its own question mark. The biggest prize of the Paul trade was Patrick Beverley, a first-team All-Defense point guard, but a decided offensive downgrade from Paul, who averaged 18.1 points last year.

Whether Rose would be expected to play alongside Beverley or one of the two would have to adjust to a bench role remains unclear.

After the Gallinari trade is finalized, the Clippers would be able to offer Rose some or all of their $8.4 million mid-level exception.
