Deputies seize 119 roosters, seek Hesperia man in suspected game fighting operation

Sheriff’s deputies seized 119 roosters alleged to be part of a game fighting operation in Hesperia and are searching for a suspect.
Deputies Rob Oakleaf and Randy Stanley gathered information about the birds at a home in the 11300 block of Hickory Avenue and obtained a search warrant, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department news release.
Detectives and deputies from sheriff’s stations in Victor Valley, Apple Valley and Hesperia helped serve the warrant about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Sheriff’s personnel found many roosters housed in separate cages at the residence. Hesperia Animal Control officers assisted with seizing the dozens of birds.
A suspect, identified as Raul Rodriguez, 57, of Hesperia, remains outstanding, according to the news release.
