San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies rescued a 24-year-old Fontana woman who became injured as she was hiking in the San Bernardino County Mountains on Tuesday, July 18, sheriff’s officials say.

The woman was hiking in the Aztec Falls area of the Pacific Crest Trail northeast of Lake Arrowhead when she slipped and fell, rolling her ankle, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff’s news release.

San Bernardino County firefighters attempted to hike their way to the woman, but were unable to because of the rough terrain, according to the release.

Officials say a sheriff’s helicopter was summoned. A firefighter paramedic was lowered down to grab the woman and hoisted back up.

The woman was then taken to Mountains Community Hospital for treatment of her injuries, according to officials.
