Crash topples utility pole onto Highway 38 in Mentone

Crews are working to remove a utility pole blocking all lanes of Highway 38 near Hillside Drive in Mentone following a crash Thursday night, according to California Highway Patrol and Caltrans officials.

Despite the single-vehicle crash taking place just after 9 p.m., a SigAlert wasn’t issued for the area until 6 a.m. Friday morning, reports indicate.

Frontier Communications crews were alerted to the downed pole, according to reports.

Highway 38 is the main road through the small town of Mentone.

It’s unclear what may have caused the driver to crash into the pole. There were no reports of injuries.
