Coachella crash involving semi leaves one dead

A person was killed Thursday morning after their vehicle smashed into the back of a tractor trailer along the 10 Freeway in Coachella, officials said.

The crash was first reported just after 5 a.m. on the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway east of Dillon Road, according to a CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire news release.

According to the California Highway Patrol incident log, the impact wedged the service truck under the large trailer.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

At least one lane of the freeway was blocked. The CHP is handling the investigation.
