CHP investigates if box truck fell off 91 Freeway in Riverside, striking a vehicle below
A box truck may have tumbled off the 91 Freeway onto Madison Street, striking a vehicle below on Thursday morning, according to initial California Highway Patrol reports.
“Right now we’re not sure if it actually came off the freeway but it did roll on top of the vehicles,” said CHP Officer Marcell Llerena on Thursday. “We called out plenty of ambulances. It sounded really bad but the only injuries were minor.”
Llerena said one person was taken to the hospital.
The crash was reported around 7 a.m., according to the CHP log, and photographs from the scene show the box truck lying on its side just below the freeway overpass.
Madison Street was shut down in both directions under the freeway overpass as of 8 a.m., Llerena said, but noted that the crash had not impacted freeway traffic or the on-ramps and off-ramps.
Several CHP officers are on scene investigating the crash.
