Charles Dickens’ great-great-grandson to perform in Riverside
By Staff report
Charles Dickens’ great-great grandson is enjoying the best of times performing his famous relative’s work.
And, for the ninth time, he’ll be doing so in Riverside — home of the annual Dickens Festival.
Gerald Charles Dickens will perform one-man shows for the public and local high school students on Monday, Nov. 13, and Tuesday, Nov. 14. The cost is $40, $25 for students with identification and children under 12. The shows are at 7 p.m.
Dickens began doing a theatrical performance of “A Christmas Carol” in 1993 and has since performed “Mr. Dickens is Coming!,” “Nicholas Nickleby,” and “Doctor Marigold.”
Dickens will perform “A Christmas Carol” at the Monday show and the lesser-known “Doctor Marigold” on Tuesday night. Both events are at First Christian Church, 4055 Jurupa Ave., Riverside.
In “A Christmas Carol,” Dickens plays more than 30 characters and uses his voice and physical talents to bring each scenes to life. He hasn’t previously performed “Doctor Marigold” in Riverside.
The next Riverside Dickens Festival is set for Feb. 24 and 25, 2018, in downtown Riverside.
