Canyon fire prompts smoke advisory for parts of Orange, Riverside counties
By Brian Rokos
A smoke advisory was issued Monday afternoon, Sept. 25, because of the Canyon fire burning on the border of Riverside and Orange counties.
The South Coast Air Quality Management District alerted the public to unhealthy air in the Corona-Norco area and central and north Orange County. The winds were shifting between the sea breeze from the southwest to the offshore flow from the northeast.
Winds Monday night and Tuesday morning were expected to blow mainly from the northeast, potentially bringing smoke and ash into Villa Park, Orange, Anaheim and Yorba Linda.
Residents in affected areas were advised to avoid vigorous outdoor activity or indoor exertion. People with respiratory or heart disease, older adults and children should remain indoors, air quality district officials said.
The advisory is in effect through Tuesday morning.
