California breweries take home 57 medals at Great American Beer Festival

California breweries nabbed 57 medals over the weekend at The Great American Beer Festival, a coveted prize in an industry crowded with players.
Still, the number of medals awarded this year was down from 68 last year.
Orange County breweries took home four medals including one gold for rookie brewery Stereo in Placentia. It was the first GABF medal for Stereo, which is celebrating its one year anniversary Saturday, Oct. 14. Last year, Orange County breweries took home six medals.

Winners in 98 categories were chosen from 7,923 entries submitted by more than 2,200 breweries across the U.S.

Here’s a list of medal winners from breweries in Orange, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside counties:
Gold: Wall of Sound, Oatmeal Stout by Stereo Brewing Co. in Placentia; Hoppa Emeritus, American Style Black Ale from Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach; Blood Orange Wit, Belgian-Style Fruit Beer by Refuge Brewery in Temecula.
Silver: McGarveys Scottish Ale, Scottish-Style Ale by Oggi’s Sports Brewhouse Pizza in San Clemente; Train to Beersel, Wood- and Barrel-Aged Sour Beer by Bruery Terreux in Anaheim; Nighthawk Rye Pale Ale, Rye Beer by Packinghouse Brewing Co. in Riverside; The Mesa, American Style Fruit Beer by Cismontane Brewing Co. in Santa Ana; Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR), American Style Lager or Malt Liquor by Pabst Brewing Co. in Los Angeles; Pure Intention Pale Ale, Australian-Style or International-Style Pale Ale […]
