Cal League roundup: Thursday, July 27
A barrage of homers gave the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes a 9-1 win over the Inland Empire 66ers at San Manuel Stadium on Thursday night.
Johan Mieses led the Quakes with two homers. He hit the first on a fly ball to right field in the top of the second and added his seventh home run of the season in the top of the fifth.
Mieses was followed by Brandon Davis who hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth and Luke Raley scored Drew Jackson when he hit his 13th homer of the season in the top of the fifth.
In the bottom of the seventh, the 66ers’ Jahmai Jones grounded into a force out, scoring Jared Walsh for their first run of the game.
After Raley singled in Jackson in the top of the ninth, DJ Peters gave the Quakes their fifth home run of the night, scoring Raley.
Pitcher Caleb Ferguson (8-4) struck out 10, allowed seven hits with one run in six innings.
Visalia 3, Lake Elsinore 0:
The Visalia Rawhide shutout the Lake Elsinore Storm in a California League game at Recreation Park.
Daniel Lockhart went 3 for 4 and led the Rawhide with an RBI and a run scored.
Visalia’s Jon Duplantier (4-0) tossed seven innings, striking out nine and allowing seven hits to take home the win. Pitcher Logan Allen (1-3) took home the loss after striking out seven and allowing six hits with three runs in six innings.
