Cal League roundup: Friday, July 7
The Inland Empire 66ers defeated the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in a 5-4 walkoff win at San Manuel Stadium on Friday night after the Quakes pushed the game to extra innings.
The Quakes took the early lead with two homers from DJ Peters and Ibandel Isabel.
The 66ers’ Taylor Ward answered back in the bottom of the seventh with a homer on a fly ball to left center field.
Inland Empire scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth, but the Quakes weren’t done.
Omar Estevez hit a RBI single and Victor Roche doubled, scoring Estevez to tie the game 4-4 in the top of the ninth.
Jose Rojas continued his hit streak on a double in the 10th that scored Thaiss to get the California League victory.
Ward finished with two RBI and a run scored. Matt Thaiss had a RBI and two runs scored.
Peters, Isabel, Estevez and Roache each had an RBI meanwhile Johan Mieses went 3 for 4 for the Quakes.
Lake Elsinore 7, Visalia 4:
Javier Garcia and Austin Allen homered in Lake Elsinore Storm’s victory over the Visalia Rawhide at Recreation Park.
In the top of the first, Garcia hit a homerun and Allen followed with one of his own. Wilfri De La Cruz doubled on a line drive, scoring Carlos Belen.
After six scoreless innings, Fernery Ozuna homered in the bottom of the seventh, scoring Austin Byler to get the Rawhide on the board.
Allen led the Storm with three RBI. Javier Guerra had two RBI and a run scored.
Pitcher Thomas Dorminy (2-1) struck out eight and allowed a single hit with no runs in five innings to take home the win.
