Bonsignore: Rams’ first division title in 14 years leaves them primed for long playoff run

The Christmas present the Rams delivered to Los Angeles and their long-suffering fans on Sunday wasn’t so much a surprise as it was affirmation.

It didn’t come as a culmination but, rather, the necessary next step on a journey they feel isn’t close to completion.

And while they rightfully celebrated their first NFC West division title in 14 years and marveled at the distance they’ve covered over the last 12 months, you get the sense it was a brief pause on their way to an even greater objective.

“This is one stepping stone,” said cornerback Trumaine Johnson.

Said linebacker Alec Ogletree: “This is not our only goal. It was one of our goals to get the West. We accomplished that. We came for bigger things and we just have to keep putting in the work next week and into the playoffs.”

They are absolutely correct.

The Rams are built, coached and capable of making a long playoff run. That much is clear watching MVP candidate Todd Gurley ravage opposing defenses on the ground and through the air.

It’s apparent in how Jared Goff continues to grow up before our very eyes while capably executing Sean McVay’s imaginative game plans while throwing to an array of capable receivers.

And it’s obvious in the way they play defense and special teams and how, save for the occasional misstep in four losses in games they were fully capable of winning, they’ve met every challenge, passed every test, answered every bell on their […]
