Apple Valley woman arrested on suspicion of child cruelty, deputies say

An Apple Valley woman was arrested Saturday, July 15 after a child fled to a neighbor’s home at 4 a.m. to report abuse, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department news release.

The victim, who was not identified, “had significant injuries” the news release stated.

Deputies obtained a search warrant for the home of Cheryl Moreno in the 15900 block of Rancherias Road, Apple Valley.

Moreno, 40, was arrested on suspicion of willful cruelty to a child and remains in custody at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga in lieu of posting $100,000 bail, according to jail records.

The county’s Children’s Family Service was called to the residence and took custody of the victim and several other juveniles in the home.

The relationship between the victim and suspect was not specified in the news release.
