Anza-Borrego Desert visitor center gets $10 fee Fridays through Sundays and holidays

Day use at the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park visitor center requires a $10 fee on Fridays through Sundays and holidays starting Friday, Nov. 3.
While entrance to California’s largest state park is free, visitors have to pay day-use fees of $7 to $15 to park at some popular areas, including the Borrego Palm Canyon trailhead.
September flooding damaged many washes, including Fish Creek, Coyote Canyon, and the Badlands. Four-wheel-drive vehicles with high clearance are needed for most roads. Officials urge travelers to use caution and avoid driving into mud and sand traps.
Hours at the visitor center, 200 Palm Canyon Drive in Borrego Springs, are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Oct. 16 to May 14, and on weekends and holidays in the off-season, May 15 to Oct. 15. Other day-use area hours are dawn to dusk.
