Five children had to be taken to the hospital after they were injured Thursday during a hazmat incident at a Palm Desert YMCA, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County fire officials.

Firefighters were dispatched to the YMCA in the 75000 block of Orange Blossom Lane around 12:30 p.m., according to a press release.

Five children had “minor injuries” and were taken to the hospital; however, the statement did not elaborate on how the juveniles were hurt or what kind of hazmat situation had taken place.

“Riverside County Environmental Health and Riverside County Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team are responding to work on identifying the hazard,” the statement said.
