Two young men suspected in a string of residential burglaries just east of Hemet were behind bars Thursday, Nov. 23.

Mikel Cody Cunning and Isaiah Mathew Townsend, both 18 and of Hemet, were arrested and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy.

Cunning is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail, while Townsend is under a $210,000 hold.

According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Duckett, about 1 a.m. Wednesday, deputies were called to the Linda Vista Mobile Home Park in the 45000 block of Florida Avenue, in an unincorporated community known as Valle Vista, to investigate reports of a break-in.

Duckett said that as deputies pulled up, two men bolted from a residence and fled into brush.

One of the suspects was quickly flushed out and arrested without incident. However, the other man eluded deputies at the scene, according to the sergeant.

He said detectives were summoned because the burglary bore similarities to seven other break-ins since the end of summer.

Investigators served search warrants at Cunning’s and Townsend’s homes, where another arrest was made based on evidence seized at the locations, Duckett said.

Neither Cody nor Townsend has any prior documented felony convictions in Riverside County.
