Two men were charged with attempted murder after Fontana police say they shot at several people who were leaving a Fontana bar last weekend, hitting one victim in the arm and leg.

Derrell Forte, 35, and Brandon Nemo, 40, both pleaded not guilty Wednesday in West Valley Superior Court in Rancho Cucamonga, court records show.

Just before 2 a.m. Saturday, a group of people were leaving The Fifth bar at 16788 Arrow Blvd. when two men — later identified as Nemo and Forte — drove up in a silver Dodge Charger, according to Sgt. Kevin Goltara, spokesman for the Fontana police department.

“One of the occupants of the vehicle shot several times at the group,” he said in an email. “One victim was hit in the arm and the leg.”

The wounded person was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, Goltara said.

Fontana officers spotted the Charger as it was trying to leave the scene, he said, and pulled it over.

Inside, officers found Nemo and Forte, police said. They also found a gun and evidence of a shooting. Drugs were also found in the car.

A motive for the shooting was not immediately clear. Goltara said he didn’t think the suspects had been at the bar prior to the shooting to have had an encounter with the victims there.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, discharge of a firearm and transportation of narcotics for sale, San Bernardino County jail records show. They initially were both booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga; however, Forte is currently being held at Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center in Devore.

Fontana police are still investigating the shooting. They ask anyone with information to call the Fontana station at 909-350-7740.
