1,800 middle school athletes compete in inaugural Riverside race

More than 50 teams and 1,800 athletes ranging from third to eighth grade competed in the inaugural California Middle School Cross Country Championships in Riverside. Teams from around the state competed.

The fastest time of the day was 10:58.4 for the boys and 11:49.9 for the girls, on the 2 mile course. Richardson Prep Middle School in San Bernardino were the boys sweepstakes team champions with a score of 54 edging out Cedar Middle School in Hesperia by one point. Richardson Prep had a team time of 60:40.

The girls team sweepstakes champions was the team from McFarland with a score of 35 and a team time of 65:34.

The event was held Oct. 13 at the Riverside Cross Country Course.
