11 classic rock songs you’ll probably hear at Rust Festival
This one goes to 11.
The Rust Festival rolls into Santa Anita Park in Arcadia Nov. 25, paying homage to the 1983 US Festival’s Heavy Metal Day with a lineup of 11 tribute bands on 2 stages.
While only five of the acts being honored appeared on the US Festival bill, Rust-goers will want to raise their fists to all of the groups as they offer up a selection of hits and fan favorites.
And as you prepare to rock, here’s 11 songs you’ll be likely to hear.
Song: “Unchained” by Van Halen
Cover band: Fan Halen
Van Halen played it at the Us Festival, so it’s a safe bet Fan Halen will play this song is off of Van Halen’s 1981 album, “Fair Warning.” While the album didn’t sell as well as their others, it got good reviews and Esquire magazine listed it as one of the “75 Albums Every Man Should Own.” The tune is in the video game, “Guitar Hero: Van Halen,” and is a fan favorite. “Enter Sandman” by Metallica
Cover band: Masters of Puppets
Even though Metallica didn’t perform at US Festival ’83, Masters of Puppets will likely perform this Platinum-certified single from its self-named 1991 album, also known as “The Black Album.” It is included on all of Metallica’s live albums and DVDs released after 1991 and is on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s list of the “500 Songs That Shaped Rock.” In 2008, NASA mission control used the song to wake up space shuttle astronauts aboard STS-123 on mission to the International Space Station.
