By Ali Tadayon
A motorcyclist was injured in a crash Sunday morning on the 15 Freeway in the Temescal Valley, and a group of about 50 other riders was blocking traffic, causing major backups in both directions, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A SigAlert was issued at 10:17 a.m., about 20 minutes after the incident was first reported to the CHP.
One motorcyclist went down in the southbound lanes south of Weirick Road about 10 a.m., according to a CHP incident log. Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department paramedics and an AMR ambulance were summoned.
The log said the group of motorcyclists had been driving recklessly before the crash, and afterward were blocking lanes.
As the SigAlert was issued, a Caltrans map showed southbound traffic was backed up more than 3 miles past the Ontario Avenue exit in Corona, and northbound traffic was backed up more than 2 miles, almost to the Temescal Canyon Road exit.
