1 killed, 2 injured when car drives into bicyclists in Indio Hills
INDIO – One person was killed and two people were injured Saturday morning when a car, apparently speeding, drove into several bicyclists in an
unincorporated area near Indio, officials said.
The crash was reported at 9:25 a.m. on Dillon Road near 30th Street in
Indio Hills, a desert community about 10 miles north of Indio, the California Highway Patrol said.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, said Jody Hagemann of the
Riverside County Fire Department, and two people were injured – one
seriously and one moderately.
Initial reports indicate that the car that struck the bicyclists was
speeding and lost control. It was not clear if the person killed was a
bicyclist or someone in the car.
The scene of the crash was on the route of the 100-mile Tour de Palm
Springs charity cycling event that began at 6:30 a.m.
An air ambulance was dispatched to transport the seriously injured
patient to a hospital, Hagemann said.
